About the Course
Adult Learners will study the basic theories and stages of child development as outlined in the works of major child development theorists. Coursework will highlight the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. Guest lecturers will present current research on child development. In order to prepare Adult Learners for assignments required during the Practicum Phase, the importance of observation and different observation techniques in a classroom will also be introduced.
Observations will include yearlong anecdotal note keeping, Techniques and strategies; interpretative, and formative assessment; rationale and record keeping; communication.
Social Emotional learning course includes rationale and aims of the five core competencies: Self-awareness, Self-management, Social awareness, Relationship skills, Making responsible decisions. Social Emotional Learning from an equity approach means being culturally responsive by fostering a sense of welcoming and belonging, establishing responsive relationships, and inclusive pedagogical practices. This also includes affirming identities, using strength based, including cultural and community wealth, and amplifying student agency. Adult learners will submit written assignments, and discussion participation.
